Spreading the Word

Dear Colleagues,
During the past 18 months I have met hundreds of laboratory medicine specialists from dozens of countries. I have been surprised how few of these specialists are aware of IFCC and its activities or of the fact that their own national society is a member of IFCC.

IFCC does publicise its activities through its website and through a number of journals and commercial publications. However, it does not publicise its activities through its Full and Affiliate Member national societies. One of the action points in the current IFCC strategic plan is to try to do that.

I would like to request that you consider creating a regular column in your national society newsletter for publishing news items from IFCC. I will arrange for IFCC to produce short (~300 word) articles two or three times a year that will help to raise awareness of the role and activities of IFCC. I have enclosed the first such article, which is a gentle introduction to IFCC and a summary of the 2009 Annual Report.

As an alternative to publishing the article in your society newsletter you could consider introducing a corner of your website entitled ‘IFCC News’. Clearly, editorial control of your society newsletter and website rests with your society and so you are free to accept or reject any of the short articles sent to you by IFCC. If you do agree to publicise any articles I should be most grateful if you could do so in association with the IFCC logo (included on the first article).

IFCC considers that this project to share information and good practice should be reciprocal.
